The great Music Hackspace has announced an exciting new seminar series called ‘We Move’ featuring the work of creative technology experts who are women and gender minorities, and it starts on 22nd February, IRL and online.

Music Hackspace is one of our favourite organisations, offering talks, workshops and events, from synth-making, production sessions, live coding and Max meetups, to speakers that have included composer and WITCiH founder Bishi.
Now the London-based Music Hackspace team has set up ‘We Move,’ a series of 25 live and online seminars featuring the work of creative technology experts who are women and gender minorities.
The series kicks off on the 22nd February stretching through to the summer, and promises to feature a range of tech related topics; spanning digital music production, data sonification, building immersive experiences, cutting edge live performance techniques and more. It’s supported by the Arts Council England.
Several speakers, artists and technologists are already confirmed to the series lineup; which currently includes composer and sound designer Halina Rice, prolific production YouTuber LNA Does Audio Stuff, and tech drumming virtuoso Vicky O’Neon.
Jenny Bulcraig
Jenny Bulcraig, Music Hackspace’s Community & Events Manager, is curating the series and says:
“Ultimately it’s so important to offer people the chance to learn from these experts - who, broadly speaking, deserve opportunities for visibility than those being currently offered. Frankly, the level of talent we are programming for this series is outrageous,” says Jenny Bulcraig, Music Hackspace’s Community & Events Manager, who is curating the series.

The Rattle, University Arts London CCI, Goldsmiths University and L-Acoustics Creations have all stepped forward to host the series of talks and workshops in spaces and facilities across London. Every event will have the advantage of simultaneously catering to a live audience (IRL) and live-streamed (URL) to allow learners access to the event from anywhere in the world.

Helen Noir
Here are some of the first confirmed sessions with artists and technologists, more to be announced.
We Move Session 1: Helen Noir - Modern Orchestration / 22nd Feb
Helen Noir (she/her) is a London-based soprano, composer, orchestrator & producer. She writes soundtracks for film, fashion and theatre, most recently for Joseph Wilson’s Isn’t it a Beautiful World, which premiered at BFI London Film Festival in October 2021. She works specifically with directors and designers to take music from initial composition through recording, orchestration, production and mixing. She also performs regularly with cult performance art group Theo Adams Company, and is an operatic session vocalist.
We Move Session 2: Halina Rice - Constructing Immersive Performance / 1st March
Halina Rice is an electronic music producer and AV artist renowned for her vivid and eclectic style ranging from downtempo soundscapes to beat-driven IDM. Working at the intersection of art, music and tech - her NEW WORLDS project unites music with mixed reality visuals and 360 sound to create emotive experiences both live and virtual. Supported by the Arts Council she has created a fully staged immersive show which has been described as “part rave, part art happening”. With previous releases on Point Blank and Blurred Recordings, her work has drawn commendations from publications such as Clash, Bonafide and Magnetic Magazine as well as radio play on Soho Radio, Threads and Séance. Halina has also carried out music tech workshops in the past for Ableton and Native Instruments.
LNA
We Move Session 4: LNA Does Audio Stuff - Creative Workflows and Songwriting for Producers / 9th March
Liina “LNA” Turtonen is a music producer, musician and YouTuber based in York, UK. She is best known for her audio/production YouTube channel LNA Does Audio Stuff. It features detailed tutorials, music production techniques, new music production gear, etc. LNA also does fun music production challenges that aim to entertain, as well as de-mystify the audio industry and make it more approachable for everyone. LNA is an Ableton Certified Trainer and co-founder of Equalize Music Production. She is originally a classically trained musician, who found a new inspiration for her music
and live performance after learning electronic music production and becoming fluent with Ableton Live. She produces, mixes and masters all her music and for other artists. LNA describes her style as carefree house/ pop, that has strong roots in Scandinavia and classical music.
Vicky O’Neon
We Move Session 5: Vicky O’Neon - Live Drum Looping with Ableton / 10th March
Vicky is a passionate drummer and Ableton Live user. She is a co-founder of the non- profit music organisations Girls Rock London in the UK and Rock Donna in her native Finland. She studied at Drum Tech in London (now called BIMM) from 2010-2013 to receive a BMus (Hons) in Popular Music Performance as a session drummer. Career highlights include programming electronic drums and live loops for the Olympics Team GB’s Homecoming Concert at Wembley Arena, partaking in the BBC’s 24hr Drumathon for Children in Need 2021, and performing with Nile Rodgers, Laura Mvula, Anne-Marie, Hans Zimmer, Clean Bandit, Yungblud, Griff and others.
Jess Bartlet
We Move Session 8: Jess Bartlet - Data Sonification / 29th March
Jess Bartlet (b. 1990) originally trained as a Pharmacist at UEA, often slipping into the music rooms to play piano between lectures. Jess now works as a Public Engagement Coordinator at The CIMR, University of Cambridge strategically traversing the space between research and public audiences, while also working as a freelance producer, engineer, and composer/songwriter, Island Fox. At the University of Cambridge, Jess is passionate about finding innovative and exciting ways to communicate and enhance groundbreaking, novel research to different audience groups. She loves exploring new fields of research through evidence-based practice, being on the precipice of new territory, and creating inspiring “discussion” spaces for thought and action.
